Okay, so I’ve been working on my classroom website for about two weeks now and I think I’m finally ready to show what I have so far. It’s not finished, but I feel like I’m getting there. Right now I have it set as private so I can post pictures of my students for families to see, but I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do for sure. What are your thoughts on this?
Here’s my website, page by page:
<– This is my welcome page; the first thing families will see. I will be posting pictures of my classroom on here, but since I haven’t seen my classroom yet I have left the picture spots blank. I found a class website template on google sites that already had a welcoming message so all I had to do was change the message a tad bit.
This is my about me page. I want the families to know a little about me so they can feel more comfortable in communicating with me. I broke this page into two parts, About Me and My Teaching Philosophy. In the about me section I talked about my schooling, teaching degree, family, and teaching experience. In the other section I put a summary of my teaching philosophy to give families a better idea of just how much I love teaching. ———————–>
<—- This will be where I will have our daily schedule. I think it’s important that families know what we are doing throughout the day. I think it will also be a good reference so if they have to pull their student out of school they will know what he/she is missing during that time.
This page currently has the Waterloo School District calendar so families know when their children will have school. It will also have a classroom calendar. I am not quite sure how I want to do it. I have been tossing around a few ideas, like having the whole month on there at a time, but I also like the idea of having just a week or two at a time. Thoughts? ————————>
<——– In the Reading & Writing section I will be including information about the curriculum used, the unit we’re working on, and specific objectives being focused on. I will also give them a heads up to any big projects going on as well as testing dates.
The Math section will be set up pretty similar to the Reading & Writing section. I will include information about the curriculum used, the unit we’re working on, and specific objectives that are being focused on. I will also let them know about any testing being done. —————–>
<——– I want to have a classroom blog so families can hear directly from their children. I plan on having at least one post a week, maybe on Fridays. The blog will post directly in this section for families to see.
<—-> I really think it’s important to have info available for families. I created the Resources section so parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s education and so they know that there’s a place to go if they want more information about certain topics. I will be adding to this section as I go, but I started off with two really important sections, bullying and reading. In each section there are links to websites with helpful information. I will also be posting my own documents as the year goes on.
I put the Waterloo School District’s school supply list in another section just for reference. I know students change schools and parents might want to know what supplies are needed if moving from a different district. —————————————————————->
<——- The last section is how families can contact me. Communication is really important to me and I want families to have access to my information. I know papers can get lost, but having it o the website will ensure that they always have access to it. I have my email, the school’s address, my room number, and the school number with my extension.
I plan on updating this website weekly. I would love input. What are your suggestions? Do you have a class website? If so, how is yours set up?
Love, love, love! I’m thinking about having a “Waiver” of some sort typed up for parents to sign to give the okay if I put pictures/video of their child online. If they don’t feel comfortable I won’t use any of their child’s pictures or videos. Our sites our set up very similar…GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE! I also see you have a love of chevron, as do I! 🙂
I should really proof read before posting…are not our! My brain thinks faster than I can type! 🙂
That’s a good idea. If you do that will you have it open or private? Yes, I absolutely love chevron patterns! Did you use a template? I used one from Google sites and just added a little to it. I like that it had a lot of the pages already set up in a format.
I will have it public. I didn’t use a template! That’s what is so funny! I didn’t even check the templates…I could have saved myself some time!
